My Personal Beliefs about Nursing: Semester 1
After experiencing a semester in university, it seems that so much has been done in such a short amount of time. Other than the sudden transition from high school to UOIT, it seems that this journey as a novice nurse is only getting better. I have acquired so much knowledge in a matter of weeks regarding nursing, what it means to be a nurse and the expectations of a nurse in the field. From this, I only crave to learn more and achieve a successful career as a nurse in the future to come. As I prepare to go into clinical next semester, I will ensure that I recognize my strengths and weaknesses, and further improve upon them, and learn from my mistakes to improve the care I give to other patients.
The Art and Science of Nursing
As I learned more about the art and science of nursing, I discovered that nurses must be aware and abstain from their own beliefs, judgment and practices when caring for their clients. The reason for this is that every individual has their own way of living depending on their religious and/or cultural beliefs and backgrounds. Because I find myself to be very strong in my religion, I must understand that, when caring for a patient with different religious views that my personal religious beliefs cannot interfere with the care I give them, nor can I treat them differently for who they are and what they believe in.
Learning about different religions proves to be, not only an enlightening experience to understand different religious views, but an advantage when caring for someone with different cultural beliefs.

In your opinion, is technology helping or hindering when it comes overcoming communication barriers in health care?
Technology is definitely helping overcome communication barriers in health care. How? Through different technologies such as Telehealth communications and the use of PDA’s which assist with the betterment of care towards patients as well as the organization of information between nurses. These technologies play a vital role in proper execution of health care within the nursing field. This allows nurses to properly interact with patients, communicate with colleagues and deliver the adequate care necessary for the patient to undergo a complete and successful recovery.

Nurse: A World of Care
With its pleasant music, inspirational quotes and astounding photos, “Nurse: A World of Care” was a very inspirational short video because of how strongly it portrayed nursing on a world wide scale. As I watched with my mouth half open, I realized how noble a job such as nursing truly is.
This inspirational video demonstrated varying issues across the globe, and where there was a patient in need of assistance, there was a nurse by their side, assisting them with what little tools they had.
We must all feel privileged that we are in the process of becoming nurses, and we have schools such as UOIT to prepare us for the future to come. Allow this video to simply be a reminder for the good you are doing at this time, and in the days to come.
I simply request for you to feel free to comment, and let me know how this video made you feel.

Introduction
Hello,
My name is Bassem Sleiman, one of the few male nurses in my year. I am a first year Nursing student at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and just recently graduated from Dunbarton high school in 2008. I currently reside in Pickering, Ontario and commute to school daily.
The use of blogging is a new experience for me and I am excited to begin to familiarize myself with it. Using this blog would be quite helpful in communicating with my fellow peers, as I look forward to communicating with you all over such a useful and resourceful online tool.
